Philadelphia Family Trip - Part Two

by Jared Wayland

Day 2: Chocolate World and Philadelphia Waking up refreshed, we headed a short distance down the road to Hershey Chocolate World. Chocolate World is a haven for chocolate lovers, offering an immersive experience into the world of Hershey. We started with the Great American Chocolate Tour Ride, a wheelchair-accessible, fun ride that takes you through the chocolate-making process with animatronic cows and a delightful smell of chocolate in the air. After the ride, we explored the Create Your Own Candy Bar section, where my son excitedly designed his custom chocolate bar, complete with a personalized wrapper.

The extensive shopping area was a dream (especially for my mom, who LOVES to shop), filled with every type of Hershey product imaginable. Accessibility here was also excellent, with wide aisles and helpful staff ensuring everyone could participate in the fun. After indulging in a delicious Hershey milkshake, we hit the road into Philadelphia.

Upon arriving at our hotel in the city center, we were pleased to find our room and the entire hotel was fully accessible as advertised. After quickly dropping off our bags, our first stop was the famous Reading Terminal Market. Known for its bustling atmosphere and diverse food offerings, the market was surprisingly easy to navigate in my Stretto. We tried the iconic Tommy DiNic’s roast pork sandwich, and the famous Philly cheesesteak and sampled a variety of other treats, making it a food lover’s paradise. The market had ramps and wide pathways, ensuring I could explore every corner without hassle.

On our way back to the hotel, we explored downtown Philadelphia, stopping at a fountain in front of City Hall where my son happily played in the water. Exhausted but content, we retired to bed, anticipating the next day's excitement.
