I recently received a new lightweight power wheelchair, the
Jazzy Carbon by
Pride Mobility, as an alternative to my
Stretto Edge3 Quantum Rehab power wheelchair. The
Jazzy Carbon has improved my mobility and has made travelling a breeze! It’s foldable, super lightweight, and durable which allows me to take it wherever I go. It's all about making life a little easier and a lot more exciting!
The
Jazzy Carbon is the perfect aid to bring for spontaneous weekend trips or if I need to go to the emergency by taxi. I can now travel in my friend’s car, which is not adapted, or take an unplanned trip to the mall. It provides me with an independent form of mobility, for sporadic use.
It is a great alternative to my
Stretto Edge 3, which is my daily trusted partner, and perfectly fits my needs and body.
I find it important to
accessorize my mobility aids and make them my own. It makes it easier for me to become comfortable using it and allows me to ensure I’ve got what I need, when I need it.
My most important
accessories for me are the cellphone holder and cup holder. I also make use of “S” hooks to hang my shakes bottles, lunch box and gym bag.
I always have a small emergency bag that contains some essentials like small scissors, a mirror, lip gloss, elastic hair bands, flushable towels, hands warmer pads, some important medication, etc. and keep a reusable shopping bag under my seat.
Since this model has a built-in USB port, I installed my cellphone charging cable along the joystick so I’m able to charge my phone while I’m on the go. You never know when you’ll need one!
I also added a small back support cushion for my scoliosis and my leg belt can be hung on the backrest when not needed. According to the season, earmuffs, gloves, or a fan can be interchanged.
Zip ties (or nylon ties) can be a beneficial tool to set up all the
accessories!
My accessories are a way to feel reassured if I forget to bring something I absolutely need, but it also makes my mobility aid a useful tool beyond the mobility it gives me.
When my illness started to progress, I felt that making my wheelchair my own, through accessories, helped me a lot to accept the fact that my needs had changed. By always having what I need right there, I’m always prepared for whatever comes my way.
If you hadn’t noticed, I like to coordinate the colour of my accessories. At first, everything was pink. Now I prefer white, for the versatility of style it gives me. What would be your favourite colour and
accessory?
