Quantum Rehab

Disability Pride Month

by Marie Pontini

As we celebrate Disability Pride Month this July, I am proud to be a power wheelchair user, especially with my Edge 3 Stretto Quantum Rehab power wheelchair.

Reflecting on what it truly means to be disabled fills me with a deep sense of pride.

We are a resilient, energetic, and strong community, composed of a diverse group of incredible individuals who uplift and support one another.

The simple fact that "life happened" has connected us and brought something beautiful and special to our lives.

Being able to say that I belong to that community makes me feel empowered. It gives me a completely different idea of how I envision my new reality as a disabled person.

From the little nod of the head and smile when I cross another wheelchair user on the crosswalk, to the strong online presence on social media from all over the world, to the gatherings with my local Multiple Sclerosis support group, it’s a whole world far from anything I could have imagined.

I’m proud that my Edge 3 Stretto Quantum Rehab power wheelchair has a great style and incredible functions, so much so that kids see it as a cool "Transformer".

I’m proud that it allows me to stay true to myself, express my unique style, and remain fashionable.

I’m proud to practice my sport and compete, especially on international stages, with my Stretto as my reliable partner. It enables me to continue training and pursuing my passion.

It’s inspiring to see my friends who also use wheelchairs thriving in various aspects of their lives. Whether they are advancing in their careers, developing their creative pursuits, or enjoying quality time with their families, their achievements are truly remarkable. We represent approximately 23% of the population, including those with invisible disabilities, and our presence matters. The principle of "Stronger Together" truly resonates within our community.

If we sometimes feel left out through the lack of accessibility in our society, together, there isn’t anything that can stop us!

That pride may not erase how we feel or where we are in our process of accepting our disability and circumstances, but it is an empowering feeling that brings great value to our lives!
